Classroom Information

Welcome to Kindergarten!  I am so glad to have your child in my classroom.  Below I have listed general information that may answer a lot of your questions.  However, please don’t hesitate to ask questions or express concerns if you do not find answers here.

**If you have changes to your child’s usual afternoon pickup arrangement please call the school office by 12:00p.m.  Do not send me an email with this information because I may not check my email before dismissal begins.

EXTRA CLOTHES - Each child will need an extra set of clothes - shirt, pants/shorts, socks, and underwear - labeled with his/her name and placed in a gallon Ziploc baggie.  Send those to school as soon as possible.  If soiled clothes are sent home, please remember to replenish the extra set of clothes for the classroom.  Remember to send a new set of clothes when the seasons change.

WATER BOTTLE: Students may bring a SPILL PROOF water bottle to school each day with them.  Please have the water already in the bottle.  Please do not add water packets, Kool-aid or other flavored beverages to the bottle or students will not be allowed to keep the bottle at his/her seat.  This is for plain water only!  This cuts down on using the water fountain and exposure to germs/viruses that may linger on them.

HOME ADDRESS/TELEPHONE NUMBERS: If you move to a new address or any phone numbers change for you, please let us know immediately!  It is important that we have the most recent address and phone numbers for you and your family for the safety and security of your child.  You can email this information to me and I can notify the office or you can stop by the office and change.

ATTENDANCE - Whenever your child is going to be out because of illness, please call the school at 276-386-7002 by 8:45 to let the office know.  Please make sure to get a doctor's excuse from your doctor and send it back to school with your child when he/she returns if you do not have a doctors excuse please write a note to excuse your child.  Each student is only allowed 7 parent notes per school year (this includes absences, early dismissals, and tardies) so use those wisely.  Early dismissals and tardies also need either a doctor's excuse or a parent note.  Just remember that early dismissals and tardies will count toward your 7 parent notes.

AFTERNOON PICKUP ARRANGEMENTS: Students in Pre-K or Kindergarten who DO NOT have a sibling in a grade 1-6 may be picked up at 2:45 p.m.  If your child will be doing this you will enter Shoemaker via road beside of Campus restaurant and enter parking lot on your right as you come up the hill.

If your child has a sibling in grades 1-6, or has no siblings and will be a 3:10p.m. car rider, you will come to the front of the school to pick-up your child.  Parents get in line in the Kane Field parking lot and come up the hill.  Please stay in your cars, do not park and walk up or in the school.  This is for safety of your child and all other children at the school.

Daily FOLDERS -  Folders will be sent home every day.  I will have a newsletter in it on Friday for the following week.  Please review the materials enclosed and return items on the "Return to School" side, and pull out the items on the "Keep at Home" side.  Please return the folders on every day.  If you need duplicate copies of newsletters, school forms, etc. due to divorce situations or other reasons, please notify me so I can make sure to get those.  I do not duplicate student work.

COURT ORDERS/CUSTODY ORDERS: If you have a court order or custody order regarding your child the office must have a copy on file.  If this changes or updates at any time during the school year please provide the office with an updated copy.  This is for the safety and security of your child.  We cannot withhold a student from his/her mother or father without a court order.  It is also important for us to understand custody orders regarding visitation.

COMMUNICATION- It is extremely important that you and I maintain ongoing communication to ensure success for your child.  Please check Folders, Newsletters, and email regularly.  If you have questions, comments, or anything, please email me.  I will respond within the school day.  I check my email periodically throughout the day when students are at gym, lunch, and after dismissal.

LABEL, LABEL, LABEL-Please label your child’s back pack, jackets, etc.  Especially if you are sending in money – please, please put it in a Ziploc baggie and label the outside with their name and what the money is for, i.e., John Doe – Snack Money.

STUDENT ID NUMERS- I will send your child’s lunch number home next week.  Please work with your child to memorize this number.  This number will be their ID number until they graduate.  Post the number on your refrigerator or anywhere that is easy to access at home.

LUNCH/BREAKFAST - Please send money that you wish to put on your child's food account in a labeled Ziploc baggie or envelope labeled with the child's name and what the money is for, ex: John Doe, lunch money.  If you are paying by check, place the Student ID number on the memo line of the check.  The “RED APPLE” given at the beginning of school has the Student ID on it.  Cost: Breakfast: $.90 Lunch $1.80

SNACK MONEY/SNACKS - Snack is $.50 cents per snack if your child buys from the school.  You can send snack money for the week and I will keep up with it.  Please place it in a Ziploc baggie or envelope labeled with your child's name on it and what it is for, ex: Jane Doe - snack money.  However, he/she may bring a snack from home. You may send snacks daily or in a gallon Ziploc bag for the week.   If you would rather send more than a week's worth of snack money at a time that is fine, I will email or notify you with a note when your child is running low on snack money.  We do have a peanut allergy in our classroom so please be considerate when sending in snacks.

BACKPACKS - Please send your child to school each day with his/her backpack.

CLASS T-SHIRTS - We will order class t-shirts for Kindergarten.  These will be worn for "special dates"   such as: field trip, field day, and any other dates that I notify you of.  More information will be sent home soon regarding ordering, sizing, etc.  Parents and siblings may also order.
